In every jurisdiction in California and nationwide, WEIGHT CAPACITY SIGNS are a requirement. The purpose of the weight capacity signs is to prevent workers from overloading the pallet rack system. Knowing each level’s weight capacity is crucial because it will avoid overloading the beam levels and prevent injuries or death in a warehouse.

For Single Row Racks, you can use any size.
For Double Row Racks, it all depends on your longitudinal flue space below is a chart to help you choose
- 12-Inch provides a 6-Inch Flue Space
- 18-Inch provides a 12-inch flue space
- 24-Inch provides an 18-Inch flue space
So for a 12-Inch Flue Space, you need the 17″X13″ Weight capacity signs.
SINGLE-ROW PALLET RACKS WITHOUT TUNNELS: You need two signs on each end of the racks (End Caps)
SINGLE-ROW PALLET RACKS WITH TUNNELS: You need three signs unless your city inspector specifies that you need four.
DOUBLE-ROW PALLET RACKS WITHOUT TUNNELS: You need two signs on each end of the racks (End Caps)
DOUBLE-ROW PALLET RACKS WITH TUNNELS: You need three signs unless your city inspector specifies that you need 4.
If your pallet racks have a 12ft. or longer break instead of tunnels, you will need 4 signs per row. two for each break.
