LOS ANGELES COUNTY MAX HEIGHT SIGNS & COMMODITY CLASSIFICATION PLAQUES guide forklift operators and employees to the maximum height they can store products in pallet racks or palletized areas within a warehouse.
They also provide emergency personnel with information on the type of products they store in case of a warehouse fire.
Although all California counties follow the “California Fire Code,” some counties have ordinances (particular guidelines) that you need to pay attention to. Los Angeles Fire Departments, for example, have their unique requirements. To satisfy the Los Angeles Fire Department, FM Global, and NFPA13 standards, we have taken the time to create signage that will be compliant with your High Piled Permit requirements.
- Material shall be rigid.
- The sign and the contained text must be large enough to be visible from the floor.
- The sign’s color and the contained text must contrast with each other for the text to be easily legible from the floor.
- The sign’s color and the line indicating the maximum storage height must contrast for the line to be easily distinguishable from the floor.
- The line indicating the maximum storage height must be thick enough to be easily distinguishable from the floor.
- The sign shall be oriented parallel to the length of the rack.
- The sign shall be placed so that the line indicating the maximum storage height is exactly at the maximum allowed storage height.
- Signs shall be provided on the corners of each storage area; if the area is only two pallet loads wide, then only one sign in the middle is needed.
- Signs shall be provided at every other aisle between each end of the storage area; if the area is only two pallet loads wide, then only one sign in the middle is needed.
- A change in maximum storage height, arrangement, or commodity will require additional signage, as if it were a separate storage area (if not already).
